“Not just 10 percent but 10 times better”
Moonshots, a terminology mainly used by Google in the OKR process, also “10x thinking“, “stretch goals“, or “extremely ambitious”, are goals that seem impossible to achieve.
Moonshots are Goals that go far beyond what the team and employees think is possible.
They are designed to encourage teams and employees to rethink the way they work and get them out of their individual comfort zones.
The term alludes to the legendary announcement by US President John F. Kennedy on May 25, 1961, that he would land a man on the moon by the end of the decade and then bring him safely back to earth.

In OKR, a moonshot is a target achievement type alongside the roofshot. “Moonshot” is a terminology used primarily by Google in the OKR process. Moonshots are also called “10x thinking”, “stretch goals” or “extremely ambitious”. These are goals that seem impossible to achieve – goals that go far beyond what a team and its employees consider possible. Moonshots are designed to encourage teams and employees to rethink the way they work and get them out of their individual comfort zones. They should consider what measures need to be taken to achieve not just a 10 percent better >result, but a result that is 10 times greater – hence the term “10x thinking”. This gives rise to completely new ideas and measures that would not have been possible if the goal had only been a marginal improvement (e.g. by 10%). The “10x thinking” triggers reflection on completely new approaches.

to land a man on the moon
and then bring him safely back to earth. The rocket expert
Wernher von Braun
who worked at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama, USA, said at the time that the current rockets would have to beten times more powerful to achieve this. The term “10x thinking” can be traced back to this.
However, if the approach is applied incorrectly, i.e. not thought through holistically, it can certainly lead to problems such as excessive demands, demotivation and the risk of employee burnout.
It is therefore important to implement this tried-and-tested method professionally and holistically in your company to ensure maximum success.
You can look forward to an exciting moonshot workshop.
